How to Do Strip Quilting

Comments Off on How to Do Strip Quilting

Quilting of stripping is a method that allows you to play quilt tops faster and easier. Instead of mending to each individual unit, sewing, the strip and cut into pieces, you then play in blocks. This technique can be used to create a variety of different patterns, including the blocks of fences and nine – patch shown here. The size and numbers of strips needed depends on the size and type of quilt is doing.

Things that you need

  • The cutting mat
  • Cotton fabric quilted
  • Estofando ruler (two recommended)
  • The rotating cutter
  • Iron
  • The sewing machine
  • The foot of the sewing machine of 1 / 4 inch (recommended)
  • The segment

Step 1.

You will need basic supplies estofando – cotton fabric, additional segment, a rotary cutter, belt cutting and rulers of clear acrylic. The length of fabric is needed depends on the size and type of quilt is doing. Please see the last slide for a detailed list of tools and materials.

Step 2

You cut your strips as faithfully as possible. Fold the fabric selvedge to selvedge, making sure that your grainline is straight and there are no wrinkles in the fabric. Trim the edges of selvages and cut the strips. (in the example shown here, that I cut strips of 2 1 / 2 inches, which is quite common in quilts range.)

Step 3

Sew the two pieces, using a sewing margin 1 / 4 inch. Keep your sewing accurate and consistent. If you do not have a foot, 1 / 4 inch mark a line on the throatplate your sewing machine, 1 / 4 inch from the center of the needle.

Step 4

Avoid stretch or bend the strips as you sew. Do not place the strips together, such as pins may distort the fabric. If your strips are of the same length, mark the center of each strip with a pen or chalk marks and combine the fabric as you guide the strips in the direction of the foot presser foot.

Step 5

Finger press each seam open with most of the tissue, pointing to the fabric color darker. Press again with a dry iron. Do not use steam – that can distort the fabric.

Step 6

To make the blocks of nine patch, cut three strips of two different colors. Sew a number of strips with fabric fabric fabric 1 – – 2 screen 1 and a second strip with the screen 2 – 1 – 2 tissue. Cut sets of horizontal strip in units of the same width as the individual strips. For example, if you’re using strips of 2 1 / 2 inches, cutting the strip of fashion in 2 1 / 2 units.

Step 7

To finish the blocks of nine patch, sew together three of the units stripped, alternating the placement of tissues, as shown here. Press the block over.

Step 8

To do some blocks, you need three different screens. Cut strips to create the size of the square that you want. For example, if you cut strips of 2 1 / 2 inches, each unit three – band is 6 1 / 2 inches wide and you can then cut into squares of 6 1 / 2 inches.

Step 9

To finish the blocks of fences, sew the four places stripped along to make a block, rotating the position of the stripes as shown here. Press the finished block, as described in step 5.
